making an impact

Dear Friends,

The year 2015 provided many special moments for the Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation. We’d like to share these highlights with you because of the tremendous impact your philanthropic support had on our Bon Secours facilities, patients, employees and staff.

The ministry of the Sisters of Bon Secours began nearly 200 years ago and remains our mainstay as we carry out their mission. Every day, the Bon Secours values of respect, compassion, justice, integrity, quality, innovation, stewardship and growth guide our decisions as you entrust us with your gifts to make an extraordinary impact in the lives of others.

Because of your generosity in 2015, the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House continued to serve as a beacon of hope for more than 1,100 families caring for loved ones at St. Mary’s Hospital. And our most recent example of philanthropy at work, the Community Hospice House, opened its doors to patients and their families as the first freestanding hospice facility in Central Virginia. Your donations continued transformation in Richmond’s East End with the creation of a healing garden at Richmond Community Hospital and the groundbreaking for the Parsley’s Center for Healthy Communities. The facility, adjacent to the hospital, will serve as a neighborhood hub where residents can access a host of health care and educational services.

With the acquisition of Rappahannock General Hospital, the Rappahannock General Hospital Foundation became part of the Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation and your gifts supported Rappahannock General and its needs, such as capital improvements or community programs.

Your gifts continued to bridge the health care gap by providing more than 20,000 patient visits through the Care-A-Van. You educated nearly 12,000 community members with healthy eating experiences through Class-A-Roll, Central Virginia’s first mobile kitchen. You inspired future nurses at the Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing by providing nearly $350,000 in scholarship funds and supporting a move to a refurbished facility in Westhampton. Your gifts to Richmond Hope Therapy Center, including an anonymous donation for the facility’s expansion, gave hope to even more children and families in need of innovative treatment. Your generosity provided medical, emotional and spiritual guidance for children with life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses and their families through Noah’s Children.

You funded overseas trips for expert teams of our doctors and nurses to perform basic health care and vital surgeries for the global community. Your gifts purchased necessary equipment for our hospitals and provided the initial funding to create an outpatient Cancer Resiliency Center that will incorporate integrative medicine therapies. Your support assisted patients as they battled cancer, brain injuries and heart problems. Your generosity promoted nursing excellence and professional development for nurses and physicians as they pursued advanced certifications and training and attended national conferences.

We are honored by your commitment to these and many other examples of the good work being done. Because of your commitment to philanthropy, your gifts create positive change and benefit the entire community. We thank you and we are grateful for your partnership as we continue giving good help for a lifetime. We look forward to what the future holds.
